May I congratulate you both on your continued good work and your first-rate website, which promises to be a mine of information for the present and a great resource for the future. I would like very much if you could put this message on your site and hopefully it will garner a response:
I am looking for anyone with any information on the demise of the St Finbarr in 1966, off Newfoundland around Christmas time that year. If you knew a crew member, or indeed were a crew member, please email me or get in touch with me via the Contact Page of my website at: brianwlavery.com
Three men who were last off at the ship, Skipper Tom Sawyers, Mate Collinson and Chief engineer Williams, demonstrated great courage during this ordeal, as did many of the crewmen. I am particularly keen to find out more about Capt. Sawyers and the Mate.
I am also keen to know about anyone who served on the Orsino that day, especially the radio operator WT Dunn and the skipper Woolridge.
Also, a radio operator called George Lee was in the area when the ship sank and took some photos, which his family have kindly given to me to use in my forthcoming book. I would like to know more of this man’s career too.
If you think you can help please drop me a line. I WILL GET BACK TO YOU.
Thank you in anticipation of your assistance,
Dr Brian Lavery, BA, PGCert, PhD. (Hull) Hon. Research Fellow, University of Hull.
